47 - My Journey to a Life I Love
Mar 02, 2025
The universe has been nudging me this week. I have had multiple prompts through the books I have read, my social media feed and my favourite podcasts to share my story, and it reminded me why I started blogging in the first place. People are not only interested in the facts and steps, it is me that makes my story unique. So here it is.
My passion
I have always been highly motivated and driven, leaving home at the first opportunity to serve my country in the British Army. Growing up, my Dad was always tinkering - both in his day job as a highly skilled engineer and in the garage with motorcycles - engineering was a natural interest for me. Aviation was another passion, sparked by living on the doorstep of Bournemouth International Airport and it's annual airshow. When I explored career options as a young teen, it was clear that aviation and engineering were the path for me.
My Career Crossroads
When I decided to leave the forces, the role I took offered plenty of opportunities for growth and development, it was an easy decision. As the years passed, I went through phases of feeling trapped, wondering if I was destined for more. I earned my MBA, started a family, and life was good. Until it was not.
It didn't happen overnight. The feeling of a lack of fulfillment crept in over months, maybe even years. At first, they were just fleeting thoughts, small moments of doubt that I brushed aside. But as time passed, those thoughts grew louder. I began questioning if I was truly fulfilling my potential. I enjoyed my work, but something was missing. I felt confined by my role, limited in my ability to make an impact in the way I envisioned. I wanted more freedom to shape my own career path.
As I navigated this internal struggle, I found myself seeking answers in books, self-reflection, training and conversations with people I admired, in reflection it was mostly business owners that I enjoyed talking with, talking strategy, growth, mistakes and lessons they learned over the years. A few went on to sell their business' back to their loyal employees which I loved the concept of. On the flip side, I watched colleagues who had spent decades in the same company, following the same routine, waiting for retirement. I knew that was not the life I wanted. I needed a challenge that aligned with my deeper sense of purpose - something that would allow me to serve, innovate, and grow something of my own.
I realised that staying in my current role meant sacrificing the bigger vision I had for my future.
My rock
My brother, Chris, also experienced moments of feeling lost and uncertain about the direction he wanted his life to take. He had an ambitious dream of building his own luxury boat - something many thought was too big, too unattainable. But he had passion, skills, and a vision. In reflection, I realise what he lacked was a clear strategy to bring it to life.
Chris faced challenges with his mental health, and though those struggles were difficult, he never stopped supporting me. He was always there when I needed guidance, someone to talk to, or simply a reminder that I was capable of overcoming obstacles. His resilience and determination to pursue his dreams, despite setbacks, continue to inspire me today.
Making the Leap
After much soul-searching, I realised my dream was to own my own business(es) - I no longer wanted to just be an employee. However, I could not achieve that dream in my current role, so I had to make a big move. Once the company was stable, I made my decision. It was one of the hardest decisions in my life. Many questioned why I left such an incredible role, but only I knew that I needed to make this decision if I wanted to create my dream future. I had seen too many people spend their lives in the same job, retire, and fade into the background. I wanted to impact peoples lives, I just was not sure how yet.
Then, I found an amazing job in an amazing company - one that allows me to grow every day, surrounded by passionate people, while still supporting the industry I love. More importantly, it gives me the bandwidth to pursue other passions. I have since launched my property investing business, and my coaching business with plans for future growth.
My purpose
We all have different ways of spending our free time. Some people coach their children’s sports teams, others renovate homes, and some unwind with Netflix. For me, my passion lies in coaching others, helping people find careers they love, their inner confidence, so they too can build their dream lives, step by step.
I blog and coach because I want to help others navigate the challenges I once faced. I know what it feels like to be stuck in a job that no longer fulfills you, to struggle financially, and to feel uncertain about the future. I have been there. That is why I am so committed to sharing my journey, so you can see that change is possible, so you take control of your life and build something incredible.
My goal is simple: to serve you. Whether through my writing, coaching, or simply sharing my experiences, I hope to inspire you to chase your dreams and take charge of your life.
Growth
Losing Chris in 2022 changed everything. Grief forced me to pause and reflect on what truly matters in life. I questioned everything - why we work the jobs we do, why we put off our dreams, and why so many of us settle for less than we deserve.
I have seen people stay in jobs that drain them, simply because they fear change. But if losing Chris taught me anything, it is that life is too short to waste on something that does not bring joy. Change can be scary, but it is often necessary for growth.
I am not perfect. I make mistakes, miss deadlines, and forget important things. But I am in a career I love, with people I love, building businesses that I love. Chris is no longer here, but his memory pushes me to take risks, step outside my comfort zone, and help you to do the same.
My final note
You are capable of more than you think. That is why I spend my time writing blog posts, researching ways to reach more people, and learning how to help others build meaningful careers. Life is full of challenges, but with a plan, determination, and the right support, you can create the future you dream of. If you want to build your own plan, check out my post here on my Three Step System.
And remember, you do not have to do it alone. I am here to support you every step of the way.
Always with love,
