69 - Why working with others can be the key to real progress

accountability action motivation Aug 03, 2025

Have you ever been away on a training course and felt like you made more progress in 48 hours than you had in months?

Maybe it was the energy in the room, the buzz of ideas and the conversations over coffee. Was there a moment when someone shared something that unlocked months of procrastination. Or, maybe someone challenged your beliefs, or called you out in the best possible way.

And then you get home... and everything is exactly the same.

The dishes still need doing. Your inbox is still full. The same people still want the same things from you. And that brilliant sense of momentum starts to fade.

I have experienced all of the above, I’ve been on courses and workshops that left me buzzing with clarity and motivation, only to come home and slip back into routine.

But I have also held the magic, and kept it going.

How?

Through the power of community and connection.

Why groups work

There is something powerful about being in a group with other people who are on the same journey.

Not necessarily the same path, but a shared sense of doing something different, something more.

Whether that is a new training qualification as a programme manager, learning the legalities of being a company director, figuring out your knit from your pearl, understanding the complexities of property investing or figuring out what is next in your career - there are many likeminded people who are on the same journey.

There are also many ahead of you, and many, many more behind you. So don’t stress.

Groups remind you that you are not the only one seeking more. They give you perspective, encouragement, and accountability. And often, someone else’s breakthrough is the very thing you needed to hear.

The sum is greater than the parts

One of the things I have come to value most is how much we learn from each other.

I have been in rooms where someone shares an idea I had never even considered. Where someone’s question opens a door I did not know needed opening. Where someone’s progress lights a fire under me to take action in my own life, I get inspired.

It is that feeling of, “If they can do it, so can I.”

Three ways to find a group that lights you up today

If you are craving that kind of connection and momentum, here are a few ways to get started:

  1. Join a free community
There are so many incredible online spaces that you can join! From Facebook groups to Slack communities to live workshops. Look for ones aligned with your values or the kind of life you want to build. Actively contribute and make connections with like minded people.
  1. Sign up for something structured
A group programme, a short course, or a workshop with built-in interaction can give you a safe space to explore new ideas, take action, and learn from others. If it is face to face, then reach out to others on the course. Create a Whatsapp group, meet up virtually or face to face to continue the learning and conversation.
  1. Create your own mini-tribe.
Reach out to a few friends or peers who you admire and trust. You do not need a big group, just a few people committed to showing up, checking in, and sharing the journey together. Share your idea of wanting to create a space of growth and accountability, and that you would like to meet up regularly (once a month perhaps) to talk about progress in your chosen area.

You have the power to make it happen, and if you are wanting a community - then others will be wanting it too.

Support makes the process faster, easier, and more fun. But not everything is going to fall into your lap, you have to search for it or create it. And when you have it, hold on to it.

What community to you have that lights you up?

Always with love,
